Mac - Week 2 Reading

" The Art of Possibilities" What a great read! I really enjoyed the first four chapters of this book. I look forward to reading the rest of this book! What I like about the choice is the wide range of subject matter. It was not a book about EDMT or LMO's or filmmaking techniques. It was a self discovery and a motivational story. I also enjoyed Ted's inspirational video. I'm always informed with his presentations.



 Chapter 1 & 2 " Stepping into the possibilities "and " Inventing what was there"

 I gained a lot of nuggets from this chapter. This is when the book introduced the metaphor, "out the box". I also liked how the author described then frog and their way of seeing things. This idea brought a lot home to me about perceptions, half pictures , and whole pictures. Everything is created in and for its purpose. How wenviewnthings is based off of our culture, upbringing, and perception. If you see a square with dots, do you see a shape, or a lot of dots ? Everything and everyone has its own unique purpose. Positive thinking about a job, relationship, assignment, or task can change the entire outcome. If you think you are in a bad circumstance, you are, but if you take that circumstance and create a positive outlook about it. According to the reading, Society plays a huge role in our perceptions as a while. If you feel like life is a struggle, as a society, and its only about making money and paying bills, then struggle, then society will allow that belief to become a reality. I can relate to the author throughout the 4 chapters. If you look at situations and tasks with an attitude of victory, then your results will be victorious,regardless of what appears on the surface.

 Chapter 3 "Give an A" This is my favorite chapter so far. I've never heard of the give an A to everyone concept before. This was empowering on so many levels. I loved the stories, the testimonials, the revelations, and the triumphs. This concept was implemented well in the instructor's music class. The class was all given an A, but it was not the point to just give the students an A, just because. The purpose was to allow the students to exploremtheir passion, and not to focus on only the grade or competition. The art was able to be ignited and not compromised. I related to this "A" concept because, I have assignments, tasks, duties that come about, whether during EDMT, work, or social. Sometimes I over think the task and overwhelm myself, rather than explore and have abundance with my imagination. I feel like this can be a handicap to me or anyone who does this. I am at a point of my life, where passion, love, and happiness about my profession and purpose is what I'm striving for. Reading this book is confirmation to me.

 Chapter 4 - Contributions I appreciated this chapter as well. I took away gratitude and giving back from this chapter. The smallest thing to the largest thing can be considered a part of contribution. Assisting a friend with moving from their old residence to a newer one is considered a contribution. I like the activity the author mentioned in this chapter. He asked his students. He asked them to write on the board every contribution made during the week. The students were initially thinking music or orchestra related, but the idea was to express anything that they might have contributed to. The reading was very beneficial to me! I took a lot of nuggets from it!

Mac Week 1 Post 3

AR Research Project I am glad to know that you will be sitting with Dr. Beard during the approval process. I always thought only the advisor approves the websites or literature review. During the archive, I was able to see how this class is about preparing us to complete our month 12 ready website and a successful leadership project.

Mac - Wimba post 2

Our first Wimba was very informative. I can tell that you are similar to Dr. Reo in your teaching style. I'm very impressed with how the class and my cohorts were interacting with each other. I look forward to learning more about the Leadership project. Are you going on vacation this week? I thought I heard that in the Wimba Archive. I look forward to the next Wimba Session.

Week 1 - Wimba

I really enjoyed The Wimba Archive! I wish I was there live to interact with everyone.  I plan on being in attendance for the upcoming Wimbas.

Capstone AR Project Website:

I feel a little bit more better about my Capstone Project now.  I believe I understand to have everything corrected from Dr. Beard.  Thank you for bringing clarity to us regarding what's expected this month and during month 11.  I am always so nervous about corrections, but I will bring my best and go from there.  I was also relieved to get clarity about the abstract, I will share the screen shot that made me understand the expectations.  I need to make sure the Abstract is 120 words, not more because you are definitely going to check that, lol! I originally thought the Abstract was a video, I'm relieved to know its an overview of our entire experience.



The leadership project sounds exciting! At least I do not feel overwhelmed.  The takeaway from Wimba regarding the Leadership Project was to prepare and make sure that everything needed for the due date is submitted 24 hours prior to the presentation.

Week 1 - Leadership Post

I actually have been pondering if I would like to publish or prepare a presentation for a conference.  I am in favor of publishing my project.  I've never published anything, besides blogs before and I am interested in doing so.  A published work will have more longevity than a conference presentation.  You can access a published article at your convenience, a conference is limited to that event.

Wk 1 - Reading Blog - Copyright Issues

So, as we well know… Copyright law, media history, and file sharing are some of my favorite topics.  I finally finished all of my required “readings” and am ready to respond.  First, I find it interesting that some of my all time favorites are not included.  I have embedded them below for your personal viewing.  However, I did find little interesting jewels to reflect upon in the new stuff.

I appreciated the differentiating between Intellectual property, Patent Law, Copyright law and Trademark.  It was an area that I was unaware of.  Secondly, I found it interesting that the next “battleground” is in the Re-mix.  Really?  I find that not nearly important as File Sharing in the war of intellectual property.  As seen in Good Copy, Bad Copy, many countries readily accept sampling, remixing, and even blatant film piracy, yet they have managed to change the business models to still make money.

A very interesting example was the Brazilian Techno Brega.  The model was an exactly flip from our system.  In Brazil, concerts are the main moneymaker and CDs are simply an advertisement.  In the US, concerts are used to promote the CDS.

The example of the Pixie’s and Techno Brega concerts being recorded live and sold upon leaving the concert.  I have been in the movie industry for years and this is exactly what I proposed for the film industry.  Sell the DVD at the movie theatre.  I was told that no one would want to buy the movie they just saw for full price… I beg to differ.  I feel it is the perfect time.  The audience is hyped and wants a permanent memory to take home.  Brazil is making it happen

I also found it interesting that Weird Al Yankovic’s music video footage, “Don’t Download this Song” was used in the film.  However, it was not credited.

PART 2 – Fair Use

There was some interesting information about Creative Commons.  My favorite quote was, “People like to pay the artists.  People don’t like paying corporations.”

All in all, I was left with a few questions…

As far as Full Sail’s EMDT Program: 

What about past activities that I may have already violated copyright law? 

I thought Fair Use covered me and now I realize that Fair Use is a process…. That I didn’t go through.  Poor Dr. Reo must be cringing at my Storm trooper comic.

Regarding Piracy in General:

Question One:  If the content can’t be bought, is it fair game to share?

Example: The Eyes on the Prize Documentary and others shown in the clip.

Question Two:  If an American film is uploaded somewhere in the world, the link is shared by Sweden, is downloaded by someone in Mexico, and sold to an American tourist… Who is the criminal?

Question Three:  If I post a link to stolen material, am I guilty?  (See Below)

Question Four:  Who is anonymous?  Really...

I leave you with some additional resources and a quote from Dan Glickman from the MPAA.  “We will never stop piracy – We just need to make it very difficult.”

I enjoyed your blog posts regarding the reading for this week. Your perspective was very engaging and informative. I like the questions you posed as well. The question you asked about sharing being fair use? I agree with you, with that question. It seems like the more money someone has, the more likely to access any copyrighted works. 

You did a great job expressing how you perceived the readings.

MAC Wk 1  Reading Blog - The Copyright Conundrum

In viewing this weeks videos on copyright, Fair Use, and Creative Commons, it is evident that current copyright legislature is stifling purpose and intent of some content being created by artists. I understand the need for copyright laws to protect artists from unsanctioned uses of their material and loss of profit, but when these laws are enforced where artists do not need them, the conundrum appears. I believe that fair use is a temporary solution to the current problem, but due to its nature of not being a "right" but a "defensible position" it places its users in a precarious position when seeking its protection. I'm hoping that more artists will use the licensing options of Creative Commons to circumvent the handcuffs of the current copyright laws. By giving artists easy to understand options for licensing their works, Creative Commons has placed sharing power back into creators' hands. The artists have a voice in how their material is used and this will result in returning us to a read/write community were ideas and creativity flourish. I look forward to using Creative Commons for my on material.

I agree with you totally about how you expressed the handcuffs on artists. Your perspective on Copyright, Fair Use, and Creative Commons is very similar to mine. It is very important for the artists to have a voice and to allow them to share their work at their own convenience.
